Radical Remix: Revolutionary Visions in Fashion and Textiles

At Brown Pre-College over summer 2023, Hannah Brodsky, Natalie Shao and I put together a presentation for a proposed exhibit based on the belief that the fashion industry should work towards a sustainable future and to highlight examples of eco-friendly and eco-focused clothing and textile making.

Fashion, specifically fast fashion trends and major company factories, has been a leading cause of climate change and represents the second most pollution heavy industry. This means that clothing companies bear a heavy responsibility for the environmental, social, political, and economic ramifications of destroying the natural world. Fashion, however, must always strive for the future and is an industry based on flexibility, modernity, and change.

In our Radical Remix team presentation, Hannah, Natalie and I selected nine pieces created with sustainable practices in mind so as to promote a greener future for fashion and also showcase their individual designers and histories. We are proud to share our slide deck, supplemented with annotations, as a design plan for a gallery or museum exhibit here.
